Therapy k-9 Program

Meet K-9 Nash

In March of 2024, Haledon’s Mayor Michael Johnson, alongside the Haledon Municipal Council, Chief of Police Angelo J. Daniele, and Deputy Chief George Guzman, Jr., proudly introduced a new member to the police force: K-9 Nash. As a Therapy K-9, Nash plays a vital role in both the community and the police force, operating under the supervision of Corporal April Latona.

K-9 Nash has undergone extensive training, which includes Basic Obedience and Therapy Dog Certification, conducted by Instructors Gideon and Tiago of Cover K-9 Training, a distinguished organization known for its expertise, with Tiago being a recognized American Kennel Association Evaluator.

Nash’s exceptional skills have been recognized through multiple American Kennel Club certificates and awards. The Haledon Police Department extends its sincere gratitude to the team at Cover K-9 Training for their invaluable support in launching our Therapy Dog Program.

This initiative was made possible by the generous contribution of Corporal April Latona, who selflessly offered her family’s rescue dog for this noble cause.

The integration of Therapy K-9s into law enforcement aims to enhance community relations, provide emotional support, and improve the overall well-being of individuals. These specially trained dogs are dedicated to offering comfort, alleviating stress, and fostering companionship, thereby facilitating positive interactions and promoting mental health awareness within our community.

The Borough of Haledon is already witnessing the positive impact of K-9 Nash, contributing to a stronger, more connected community.
