RECYCLING CENTER HOURS
HALEDON MUNICIPAL COMPLEX
510 BELMONT AVENUE
Monday –Closed
Tuesday 7:30AM to 4PM
Wednesday 10:30AM to 7PM
Thursday 7:30AM to 4PM
Friday 7:30AM to 4PM
Saturday 7:30AM to 4PM
**RECYCLING CONTAINERS SHALL BE STRONG, METAL, PLASTIC OR FIBERGLASS, WITH HANDLES, HOLDING NO MORE THAN 32 GALLONS, WITH CLOSE FITTING METAL OR PLASTIC LIDS. CONTAINERS SHALL HAVE AN OPENING OF AT LEAST 20 INCHES**
The following items must be recycled:
Newspapers
Cardboard (cereal, spaghetti boxes, etc.)
Corrugated cardboard
Aluminum beverage cans
Tin food cans
Glass bottles and jars
Plastic containers (#1 & #2 only)
Magazines
Office paper
Junk mail
School paper
NCR paper
Colored newspaper inserts
Catalogs
Soft Cover books
Hard cover books (covers removed)
Non-metallic wrapping paper and cards
Scrap metal
Important reminders:
- Bottles and cans MUST be rinsed
- Remove all caps and corks
- Do not crush bottles or cans. Plastic containers can be crushed.
- Do not place any recyclables at curbside in plastic bags or cardboard boxes
- Commingled glass, aluminum beverage cans, tin food cans and plastic must be placed in either metal or strong plastic containers or pails, preferably with handles so that contents can be easily dumped out. Weight should not exceed thirty (30) pounds.
- Any recyclable materials that are not placed for collection in the above manner will not be collected.

Cardboard boxes soiled with grease or food
Additional Recycling information
- Leaves and brush are collected curbside. Call the Municipal Clerk’s office at 973-595-7766, ext. 103 for more information
- The Passaic County Office of Recycling & Natural Resources will conduct Hazardous Waste Collections. Call the Municipal Clerk for collection dates and locations.
- Call the Municipal Clerks office regarding computer and electronic collections.
Items accepted at the recycling center only
- SCRAP Metal – metal appliances such as toasters, frying pans, irons, metal pots and pans, hot water heaters, dryers, dishwashers, stoves, air conditioners, refrigerators, freezers
- Used motor oil, car batteries
- Tires (fee charged)
- Clothing – clothing bins are located at the Recycling Center
COMPUTERS, AND TELEVISIONS ARE ACCEPTED AT THE RECYCLING CENTER. There is a E Waste bin for Electronic Recycling.
CURBSIDE RECYCLING SCHEDULE
1st Wednesday of the month
Newspapers, magazines, junk mail, office paper, and catalogs. Place items in paper bags or tie and bundle. DO NOT PLACE IN PLASTIC BAGS
2nd Wednesday of the month
Cardboard and corrugated cardboard must be flattened and tied. Cereal boxes, etc.
3rd Wednesday of the month
Eastside of the Borough – residents who have a Monday and Thursday garbage collection:
Commingled glass bottles, glass jars and jugs, aluminum cans, tin food cans and plastic containers #1 and #2.
4th Wednesday of the month
Westside of the Borough – residents who have a Tuesday and Friday garbage collection:
Commingled glass bottles, glass jars and jugs, aluminum cans, tin food cans and plastic containers #1 and #2.
- Residents are encouraged to use the Recycling Center for their recyclables
- Business are required to drop off their recyclables at the Recycling Center
- When dropping off any recyclables, you must sort them and place them in their appropriate recycling bins.
