Mayor’s Message

Haledon is a great place to live, work and raise a family. It is my duty to make sure that Haledon – the town I grew up in and that YOU elected me to lead as your mayor – stays that way.
As a municipal official, I have a variety of issues that need attention but in the wake of recent gun violence, the governing body continues to make public safety its top priority. Last year, Haledon was awarded a federal grant to hire an additional police officer. Only nine towns in New Jersey received the federal aid. While many towns are forced to lay off first responders, Haledon is looking forward to adding police personnel to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents. In addition, Haledon has actively encouraged resident participation in its Neighborhood Watch program which has proved to be very successful. Our police need residents to continue to be the “eyes and ears” of their streets, sidewalks and neighborhoods. As a result of our police officers’ dedication, and the information provided by citizens, several high profile arrests have already taken place.

Haledon has also responded to a request by our local school officials who are considering uniformed off-duty police in both the grammar and high schools. We have assured both school districts that we will make available our police officers if they decide to add such extra police protection. In the meantime, we have agreed to increase Haledon Police walkthroughs at each building during the school day as part of each officer’s daily activities. Together with our school officials, we are committed to the safety of Haledon’s children.
Of course, as a taxpayer, I am also very concerned that we spend our money wisely. That is why I am proud to announce that Haledon was one of only two towns in Passaic County to receive a credit rating upgrade by Standard & Poor’s.
Every borough resident, visitor and business patron in Haledon is important to the success of our small town. I’m proud to do my part in making sure Haledon continues to be the vibrant community we all love.
If you would like to become a part of our Neighborhood Watch program please call Haledon Police Department at 973 790 4444. As always, you are welcome to attend our monthly mayor and council meetings on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at 8:15pm in the Borough Hall Council Chambers.
